Plain Old Telephone Service Also called
the public switched telephone network (PSTN). Basically it's the old
(current) telephone system but to show how dazzlingly brilliant the new
system is they had to give the old (current) one a crappy name. No doubt
the VoIP infrastructure will be given a suitable crappy acronym once it's
replacement is thought up, suggestions on a postcard please to VOIPS (Very
